1/25/21 capitol reef NP

Updated: Feb 20, 2021

began the first day in capitol reef with a long hike through the grand wash: a dried up river bed surrounded by huge rock walls. super epic. at the end of the river, there was a steep hike up the the cassidy arch named after outlaw butch cassidy who allegedly hid out in the grand wash area !! we found way too many cool rocks and froze as the sun didn’t pass the rock walls until later in the hike.

after the first hike, we drove on a very low gas hike towards town, but saw another hike that we had to do: hickman's bridge. we stopped here and hikedup to the bridge, where we reconnected with a great old friend !! ended up hot tubbing at his hotel while we watched the snow fall over the mountains as the sun as behind them. so nice to be warm <3 got a free shower & delicious dinner at the hotel before bundling up and spending the cold night on some blm land. a good reminder to slow down & appreciate all of the NOW🪐

the colors of this park are beyond insane. the rocks are the most beautiful hue of orange-pink that makes me feel so comforted and connected with the earth.

slept through the cold night and took time to chill and do class from the comfort of our car bed in the morning before taking on the snowy mountains!! another beautiful hike through capitol reef as well as some viewpoints and petroglyphs on the way out of the park as the snow began to fall more heavily. pretty crazy to experience a snowstorm in the mountains.

we drove into the nearest town with service for the nigh, where we found a very interesting yet peaceful “critter garden!” that had some great messages that are very relevant to us lately 🐸natalia ended up finding a beanie at the end of the path here, which she has been saying she wanted for a while now. ask and you will recieveeeeee 🦋

also... happy peanut butter day (1/24)!! only went through one jar of PB this trip and we are very proud of ourselves hahahah
